WATER CONSERVATION

Is your water bill higher than normal?  American Water Services has found that most of the time a surprise on your water bill comes from a running toilet.  Most people believe that if they do not hear water running the toilet has stopped flowing.

However, in many cases water can constantly seep slowly down the overflow tube due to the float valve not closing completely.  It may also leak slowly by the flapper in the bottom of the toilet causing the toilet to slowly leak down and cut back on every few minutes. These leaks are often so slow that they are not easily heard by the homeowners.

A good way to check for this is to put a small amount of food coloring on the toilet tank and wait a few minutes. If the color shows up in the toilet bowl you have a problem.

Rain BarrelRain Barrel Information

The purpose of a water barrel is to collect rain water that runs off of the roof through the gutters. The harvested rainwater can then be used for watering landscapes and gardens. By harvesting rainwater, you are helping the environment, and saving money. Depending on the size of your house and the amount of rainfall in your area, you can collect a substantial amount of rainwater with a simple rain barrel system. The more water you harvest, the less water you consume from public sources which can have a significant impact on your water bill.
You can purchase a rain barrel kit or an assembled rain barrel from American Water Services, Inc. Our rain barrels include a 55 gallon barrel for catching the rain, a water spigot for easy water usage, a strainer to keep unwanted debris out of the water, and a downspout so that the barrel will not overflow. Our rain barrels have a quality design that can be altered to fit your water harvesting needs. Special pumps and other equipment can be added to the barrels.

Larger Scale Projects

In addition to the basic rain barrels, we design and install more elaborate rain collection systems. We can install larger underground tanks and route all your home gutter pipes and condensation lines into these tanks. To distribute the water from these tanks, we are offering a variety of pumping options from solar pumps to simple portable pumps. The systems can be connected to both new and preexisting irrigation systems as an alternate supply to the public water system.
